Boats are rowed in Venice, during the 39th ´Vogalonga´, a non-competetive about 32 km regatta around the Venetian laguna. The regatta, initiated by amateur and professional rowers in 1974, was originally meant as a protest against the growing use of motorboats in the laguna.
