SANTIAGO.- The Chilean national soccer team has left much to speculation regarding their upcoming World Cup qualifying matches after a 1-1 tie today against Belgium at their last match at the Kirin Cup in Japan.
At the event, which was the team's last game before they face Paraguay and Bolivia, Marcelo Bielsa's players once again failed to close out the match and was plagued by defensive errors. The outcome has led to some concern since several of the players that were placed as starters today are also scheduled to take the field against Paraguay.
The scoreboard was marked first by the Belgians with a goal by Kevin Roelandts at the 15 minute mark. Later, the game was tied when Universidad Católica player Gary Medel scored a point for Chile.

SANTIAGO.- 21,734 tickets have already been sold for the second-to-final home match of the Chilean National Soccer Team in the qualifying phase for the South Africa 2010 World Cup.
On Wednesday, June 10 at 9:00 PM in the National Stadium, Chile goes up against Bolivia in what could potentially be a huge step for the National Team in their race to make it to South Africa.
The tickets are on sale at Paris department stores in Iquique, La Serena, Viña del Mar, Valparaíso, Rancagua, Curicó, Talca, Concepción and Santiago; and are also available at the Feria del Disco in Antofagasta, La Serena, Viña del Mar, Rancagua, Talca, Chillán, Concepción, Temuco, Osorno and Puerto Montt.
Ticket prices run from $9,800 pesos in the general stands to $143,800 in the "high pacific" seats. An additional 20% discount is offered if one purchases with the "Mas" card ($7.800 general).

SANTIAGO.- At the tender age of only 17, coastal native Camila Silva is an up-and-coming star in Chilean tennis.
Today, Silva is the 11th best-ranked player in the juniors' female circuit, but she knows and her talent indicates that she can go even higher.
For now, the national tennis player is already fulfilling one of her 2009 goals to enter the Roland Garros juniors' tournament.
Thanks to her ranking, Silva was directly included in the clay court tournament and is one of three South American tennis players in the competition.
According to the acceptance list revealed by the tournament organizers, Silva heads the South American list of athletes, which also includes Verónica Cepede of Paraguay and Paula Ormaechea of Argentina.

LOS ANGELES.- The popular cartoon character "Papelucho", created by writer Marcela Paz and taken to the big screen by Director Alejandro Rojas, will be seen in North American theatres now that Mexican distributor Gussi has acquired the rights to the film.
According to Variety, the animated film, which attracted close to 200 thousand audience members in Chile, was acquired through FilmSharks International – a Latin American company in charge of selling the film's rights abroad.
The feature-length film also has been signed to make its way to Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and the Middle East, thanks to operations with film distributors Impacto Cine, EuroCine, Escalon Films and Media International Pictures.

SANTIAGO.- Rumors had been circulating that Uruguay may make lineup changes for their confrontation with Chile tomorrow at the National Stadium.
Amidst the buzz in Montevideo it was even mentioned that Sebastián Abréu could be included in the offense in hopes of taking advantage of his "header" shot abilities. All of this, however, could just be talk, since it is possible that the team could maintain the same formation put into play during its 2-0 defeat over Paraguay at their last match.
The formation includes Sebastián Viera, Maximiliano Pereira, Diego Lugano, Diego Godín y Martín Cáceres; Diego Pérez, Sebastián Eguren, Álvaro "Palito" Pereira and "Cebolla" Cristián Rodríguez, as well as the same two offense players: Luis Suárez and Diego Forlán.

SANTIAGO.- Although reports of negotiations had already been coming out of Paraguay, goalkeeper José María Buljubasich's parting with the Universiad Católica yesterday seemed to speed things up.
Olimpia de Asunción had called the goalie a few weeks ago; however Buljubasich was still negotiating with the UC at the time, postponing talks with the Paraguayan club.
Today reports out of Paraguay indicated that the goalkeeper has already been confirmed as a new addition to the club, which hopes to regain international status.
"We have already reached an agreement with Buljubasich and we are following some other players that we would also like to add. José María's addition is an important step and we will continue to negotiate with others", Olimpia president Eduardo Delmás told the newspaper "ABC" de Asunción.

SANTIAGO.- Despite a tie with Uruguay, the three points the Chilean national soccer team obtained in Lima were enough for the squad to be hailed as the big winner of the most recent round of qualifying matches.
The team has not only done well because it is now one of the three teams to gain four points in this session, along with Brazil and Uruguay, but Chile was the only team of the four currently within the direct qualifying zone that managed to move up a position.
Before the most recent matches, "La Roja" was in fourth place, with the same amount of points as Argentina, but below them considering the difference in goals.

ASUNCIÓN.- The media of Asunción are expressing disappointment today after the Paraguayan team Olimpia –a two time Copa América champion- tarnished its historical record with a 4-0 loss taken last night against Chile’s Universidad Católica. The defeat during the starting match of Phase one of the Copa Sudamericana Tournament has been deemed "humiliating".
The "Popular" newspaper states that "not even the most optimistic Universidad Católica fan would have thought that their team would have had such a heyday against a team with such a favorable history in international competitions".

RIO DE JANEIRO.- Chile maintained at sixth place in the regional Economic Climate Index (ICE) of Latin America for the month of January. Despite its rise in the ranking, the actual index declined from 4.7 points in October to 4.3 points in January, taking into consideration the average of the past four trimesters.
According to the trimester study conducted by the Brazilian Foundation Getulio Vargas and by the IFO institute of the University of Munich, the Economic Climate Index (ICE) for Latin America was at 2.9 points in January; it's lowest since January of 1990.
According to the ICE average for the past four trimesters, the country in the best position continues to be Uruguay, with an indicator of 7.4 points through October, which dropped to 6.6 in January.
In the next four spots are Peru (6.3 points), Brazil (5.2 points), Paraguay (4.8 points) and Colombia (4.3 points).

SANTIAGO. - This week marks the beginning of the group phase of the Libertadores Cup for Chilean teams. Audax Italiano will be the first on the field, competing against Sportivo Luqueño of Paraguay this Tuesday, 19th of February.
These “guaranies” of Paraguay arrive on the tail end of a 3-1 victory against Sol de America at the start of their local tournament. Trainer Daniel Lanata took advantage of the game as a sort of pre-cup test, and utilized a classic 4-4-2 formation.
