PARIS.- As part of President Michelle Bachelet's official visit to France, the nation has signed two energy agreements with Chile for the development of Non-Conventional Renewable Energies (NCRE). The Chilean Minister of Energy, Marcelo Tokman, and the French head of Ecology, Energy and Territorial Planning, Hubert Falco, signed a specific agreement concerning renewable energies, as well as a letter of intent specifying the conditions of the collaboration. The pact establishes measures for cooperation between the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME) and the Chilean Center for Renewable Energies. PARIS.- While on an official visit to France, President Michelle Bachelet and the General Director of UNESCO, Koïchiro Matsuura, signed a document today to promote sustainable ecotourism on Easter Island. According to the Mayor of Easter Island, Luz Zasso, the primary objective of the initiative is to "foster human capital in ecotourism" in an effort to preserve the heritage of the island. "To create the skills so that local people can maintain the heritage, become experts in ecotourism and preserve the tangible and intangible commodities of Easter Island", added the mayor. Management plans were also made to study how Easter Island can grow within a period of 30 years. SANTIAGO.- In a historical performance, Chilean sailor Matías del Solar won the bronze medal today at the famed French Olympic Week, at the fourth annual ISAF Sailing World Cup, in which 140 athletes from 40 countries competed. The Olympic sailor shined in the bay of Hyeres, classifying second in the Medal Race, where only the 'Top Ten' of the event participated, and climbed four spots in the general ranking, now lead by British Paul Goodison. SANTIAGO.- Chilean pianist Michio Nishihara Toro will begin a tour through several European countries with a concert at St. Martin in the Fields, in London. The pianist will also perform on two other London stages, holding a performance on April 22 at Goodenough College and another on April 23 at Regent's College. Nishihara will then travel to Germany to perform on April 30 and May 14 at the Christophori Piano Salon in Berlin. After Germany, the musician will make his way to Poland, where he will offer concerts on May 21 at the Szkoly im. Zelenskiero Concert Hall in Krakow. On May 26, Nishihara Toro will be in France to perform at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Amphitheatre in Strasbourg. SANTIAGO.- After returning from her vacation today, the Mayor of Huechuraba, Carolina Plaza, once again justified the trip she took to Europe in 2005 saying that, despite questions that have been posed by the Comptroller's Office, the trip will bring benefits to the municipality.
