SANTIAGO.- Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mariano Fernández, confirmed this morning that the Chilean government has decided to ask for explanations from the ambassadors of Brazil and Argentina after the diplomats from both nations issued statements in Lima in favor of Peru's maritime claim at The Hague. Fernández stated that "the affirmations made by the ambassadors in a regional capital surprised me, since ambassadors generally act upon instructions", reported Radio Cooperativa. SANTIAGO.- 21,734 tickets have already been sold for the second-to-final home match of the Chilean National Soccer Team in the qualifying phase for the South Africa 2010 World Cup. On Wednesday, June 10 at 9:00 PM in the National Stadium, Chile goes up against Bolivia in what could potentially be a huge step for the National Team in their race to make it to South Africa. The tickets are on sale at Paris department stores in Iquique, La Serena, Viña del Mar, Valparaíso, Rancagua, Curicó, Talca, Concepción and Santiago; and are also available at the Feria del Disco in Antofagasta, La Serena, Viña del Mar, Rancagua, Talca, Chillán, Concepción, Temuco, Osorno and Puerto Montt. SANTIAGO.- According to the Association of Manufacturing Exporters and Services (Asexma), manufacturing exports registered a decrease of 21% for the January-March period of 2009, with total shipments of US$ 1.508 billion dollars. The figure is lower than the number of exports reported during the same period last year, which totalled US$ 1.908 billion dollars. Meanwhile, manufacturing shipments abroad during March alone of this year totalled US$ 553.2 million dollars, registering a 26.8% increase when compared to February when exports totalled US$ 436.4 million dollars. According to the president of the organization, Eduardo Moyano, the decrease observed in manufacturer shipments over the first three months of this year was affected by lower global demand for products with added value. SANTIAGO.- The Panamanian Authority for Food Safety has authorized nine Chilean sheep and bovine meat packing companies for export to their country. The announcement was made today by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, who were informed by the Agricultural and Farming Service (SAG). SANTIAGO.- Despite a tie with Uruguay, the three points the Chilean national soccer team obtained in Lima were enough for the squad to be hailed as the big winner of the most recent round of qualifying matches. The team has not only done well because it is now one of the three teams to gain four points in this session, along with Brazil and Uruguay, but Chile was the only team of the four currently within the direct qualifying zone that managed to move up a position. SANTIAGO.- The melancholy image held by the members of the band Radiohead was shattered last night by four spacey Chilean fans. The incident took place following the band's concert in Brazil, when the group went out to a restaurant in Ipanema. There, while they were celebrating a successful performance, they befriended some Chilean girls vacationing in Brazil, who offered them tickets to the Radiohead concerts to be held on Thursday and Friday in Santiago.
