SANTIAGO.- Chilean President Michelle Bachelet is scheduled to hold a long-awaited meeting with her United States counterpart, Barack Obama, on June 23rd of this year.
The President herself made the news public while announcing the appointment of Chilean national Arturo Valenzuela as the new head of U.S. diplomacy for Latin America.
"I think that it he is an excellent choice that is right in line with the President Barack Obama's plan to continue developing positive and constructive relations with Latin America and, of course, Chile", stated Bachelet.
Neverthless, Bachelet also indicated that she does not believe Valenzuela's appointment to be a gesture towards Chile on the part of the United States, but rather a signal to the whole of Latin America.

SANTIAGO. - According to the Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza (who is one of the special guests invited to the United States Presidential Inaugural Ceremony today) nations are hoping that more open dialogue will be fostered by the administration of Barack Obama, who is the first African-American president in the history of the United States.
“Other governments are hoping for more dialogue, a relationship where no one tries to force their terms upon anyone else with an emphasis on seeking agreements and consensus. More than a change of topic, it is a change of style”, indicated Insulza.
According to the Secretary General of the Organization of American States, the world economic crisis and the two wars currently raging in the Middle East will be inherited from the George W. Bush administration and Obama will have to face them in the short term.

SANTIAGO.- President Michelle Bachelet took a moment to pause during her first activity this morning to acknowledge the election of Barack Obama as the new President of the United States and wish him success in his administration.
"Please allow me to take this opportunity to publicly acknowledge the election of Barack Obama as the new President of the United States (...). From this country located at the very southern tip of the Americas we wish him success in his administration", stated President Bachelet.
Amidst roaring applause offered by those attending the international seminar on "The Impact of Primary Education", Bachelet asserted that Obama's main concerns have to do with social justice and equal opportunities, "which he has summarized in his mottos of change and hope and which are certainly the same principles that inspire us here in Chile".
