SANTIAGO.- An extensive anti-narcotics police raid on nine homes this morning in Curacaví ended in the arrest of ten people – seven men and three women.
The operation was carried out in an effort to disband two drug-trafficking groups that had been operating in three slums located in the aforementioned municipality. The groups had allegedly been using grocery, vegetable and liquor businesses as facades to mask their income.
The operation, which began at 6:00 AM, included the participation of 300 officials belonging to Special Police Forces (GOPE), the OS7, the 30th Commissary of Radio Patrols, the Sub-commissary of Curacaví, as well as police canine units.
The law enforcement officials arrived in the marginalized neighborhoods of 11 de Septiembre, Carol Urzúa and Juan Williams Rebolledo, where they simultaneously raided nine homes.

SANTIAGO.– The Navy rescued two French sailors from Cape Horn today, Jean Vincent Riou and Jean Le Cam. Their vessel was still adrift two days after sending out a signal for help from Le Cam's yacht. Both of them were participants in a race to sail around the world alone.
Both sailors were rescued by the "Alacalufe" Navy patrol and arrived in the city of Puerto Williams at 6:45 AM today. Navy Captain Arnaldo Peralta reported that both men were in good health conditions.
"They were rescued and they are both in good health", indicated Peralta.
The general service boat set sail yesterday after receiving an emergency alert which indicated that the French yacht "PRB" had a broken mast and sail and that the motor had ceased to function, leaving the vessel completely adrift.

MELBOURNE.- The top seeds for the Australian Open were announced today as seventh-seeded Fernando González prepares for his match tonight against the sixteenth-seeded Cyprian player, Marcos Baghdatis, at the Kooyong Classic exhibition tournament in Melbourne.
González will be the fourth seed at the season's first Grand Slam tournament, beginning on Sunday at the Melbourne Park courts. The number one player for Chile will have to rack up some 750 to defend his position after making it to the finals last year along with Roger Federer.
Federer was named the number one seed, followed by Spanish player Rafael Nadal (No. 2 in the ATP) and Serbian player Novak Djokovic (No. 3).
