SANTIAGO.- 21,734 tickets have already been sold for the second-to-final home match of the Chilean National Soccer Team in the qualifying phase for the South Africa 2010 World Cup. On Wednesday, June 10 at 9:00 PM in the National Stadium, Chile goes up against Bolivia in what could potentially be a huge step for the National Team in their race to make it to South Africa. The tickets are on sale at Paris department stores in Iquique, La Serena, Viña del Mar, Valparaíso, Rancagua, Curicó, Talca, Concepción and Santiago; and are also available at the Feria del Disco in Antofagasta, La Serena, Viña del Mar, Rancagua, Talca, Chillán, Concepción, Temuco, Osorno and Puerto Montt. Ticket prices run from $9,800 pesos in the general stands to $143,800 in the "high pacific" seats. An additional 20% discount is offered if one purchases with the "Mas" card ($7.800 general). SANTIAGO.- According to the Association of Manufacturing Exporters and Services (Asexma), manufacturing exports registered a decrease of 21% for the January-March period of 2009, with total shipments of US$ 1.508 billion dollars. The figure is lower than the number of exports reported during the same period last year, which totalled US$ 1.908 billion dollars. Meanwhile, manufacturing shipments abroad during March alone of this year totalled US$ 553.2 million dollars, registering a 26.8% increase when compared to February when exports totalled US$ 436.4 million dollars. According to the president of the organization, Eduardo Moyano, the decrease observed in manufacturer shipments over the first three months of this year was affected by lower global demand for products with added value. SANTIAGO.- Despite having the public against them at the Manuel Bonilla Collisseum in Lima, the Chilean women's volleyball team managed to triumph and then secure a very tough win against Colombia to take third place in the 2009 Copa Latina tournament. During their fourth match in the international championship in the Peruvian capital, Hugo Jáuregui's squad played well, but secured the match only during the tie-break phase. During the first part, the Chilean team dominated the Colombian players. In the second part of the match however, the tide turned. In the third portion of the match, Chile gained steam and pulled ahead. Colombia, however was able to step up their game once again, leaving the score at 2-2. The teams were forced to go head to head in the tie break phase, with Chile finally securing the win. The players will now return to Santiago before making their way...

SANTIAGO.- The Chilean film "La nana" will continue its international tour before premiering in Chile. Organizers of the Sydney International Film Festival confirmed today that the movie will be amongst the 12 films included in the official competition. The Australian event, which will take place between June 3rd and June 14th, will feature a strong European presence among the films competing for first prize, with five of the movies hailing from the "Old Continent". One of the most difficult "rivals" for the Chilean film by Sebastián Silva, who has also been invited to Sydney, will be the latest creation of British director Ken Loach, "Looking for Eric", which will be the first movie to debut at the festival. BOGOTÁ.- The players and coaches of the Colombian national soccer team have spoken out today against racist remarks made by Chilean referee Pablo Pozo, who presided over last night's South Africa World Cup qualifying match, where Colombia lost 2-0 to Venezuela. "When he expelled Abel (Aguilar) he yelled hysterically: 'Get that black guy out of here! Get that black guy out of here!' SANTIAGO.- The Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Alberto Van Klaveren, has, for the moment, denied that the Foreign Affairs Office will demand an explanation from the Argentine government with regards to actions of espionage carried out by former Argentine agent Iván Velásquez, who has been in custody in Montevideo since January 22nd of this year. According to Van Klaveren, the office is waiting for the results of an investigation being performed by Uruguayan judge Graciela Gatti, who is in charge of the case against Velásquez. Velásquez is facing charges of aiding and abetting, illegal use of private information and fraudulently obtaining information, among other crimes. RIO DE JANEIRO.- Chile maintained at sixth place in the regional Economic Climate Index (ICE) of Latin America for the month of January. Despite its rise in the ranking, the actual index declined from 4.7 points in October to 4.3 points in January, taking into consideration the average of the past four trimesters. According to the trimester study conducted by the Brazilian Foundation Getulio Vargas and by the IFO institute of the University of Munich, the Economic Climate Index (ICE) for Latin America was at 2.9 points in January; it's lowest since January of 1990. According to the ICE average for the past four trimesters, the country in the best position continues to be Uruguay, with an indicator of 7.4 points through October, which dropped to 6.6 in January. SANTIAGO.- 2005 was one of the best years in the career of Francisco Arrué. The soccer winger had a great season with the Universidad Católica, and ended the year with an excellent performance at the Clausura tournament and the Copa Sudamericana semi-finals. Arrué's coach at the time, Jorge Pellicer, would now like to have him once again on the team roster. Pellicer has asked Arrué to form part of the 2009 team for the Universidad de Concepción.
