SANTIAGO.- The Chilean national soccer team has left much to speculation regarding their upcoming World Cup qualifying matches after a 1-1 tie today against Belgium at their last match at the Kirin Cup in Japan. At the event, which was the team's last game before they face Paraguay and Bolivia, Marcelo Bielsa's players once again failed to close out the match and was plagued by defensive errors. The outcome has led to some concern since several of the players that were placed as starters today are also scheduled to take the field against Paraguay. This was the emphatic statement made by government spokesperson Carolina Tohá while mentioning the press reports indicating that Chile and Holland may have reached the beginnings of an agreement for the purchase of eighteen F-16 planes. Fernando González (ATP No.12) will face a player from the qualifiers, Paul Capdeville (ATP No.76) will go up against Argentine player Diego Junqueira (ATP No.79) and Nicolás Massú (ATP No.122) will play against Austrian player Daniel Koellerer (ATP No.81). SANTIAGO.- 21,734 tickets have already been sold for the second-to-final home match of the Chilean National Soccer Team in the qualifying phase for the South Africa 2010 World Cup. On Wednesday, June 10 at 9:00 PM in the National Stadium, Chile goes up against Bolivia in what could potentially be a huge step for the National Team in their race to make it to South Africa. The tickets are on sale at Paris department stores in Iquique, La Serena, Viña del Mar, Valparaíso, Rancagua, Curicó, Talca, Concepción and Santiago; and are also available at the Feria del Disco in Antofagasta, La Serena, Viña del Mar, Rancagua, Talca, Chillán, Concepción, Temuco, Osorno and Puerto Montt. SANTIAGO.- The Chilean national soccer team held their first practice today in Japan following a long trip that included stopovers in Paris and Tokyo before finally arriving in the city of Hirono, which has a 13 hour time difference with Chile. The team, led by Eduardo Berizzo and Luis Bonini, arrived early in the morning Japanese time, (nighttime in Chile) and, after only a brief rest, held their first practice in Asia during the afternoon (early morning in Chile). The Kirin Cup matches will begin next week, however the coaching staff for the national team hopes to observe the squadron, which includes newcomers Braulio Leal, José Rojas and Iquique native Edson Puch. Jorge Valdivia joined the team's midfield after travelling directly from the United Arab Emirates to Japan. SANTIAGO.- The remains of former Christian Democracy minister Claudio Huepe, who died from a heart attack on Monday while visiting a shopping center in Venezuela, arrived in Chile this morning. The LAN flight coming from Caracas landed at the Santiago Airport at 5:18 AM with the coffin containing the remains of Huepe. A wake will be held for the former minister today at the former Congreso Nacional building in downtown Santiago. The General Undersecretary of Government Affairs, Edgardo Riveros, arrived at the airport to receive Huepe's body. A memorial mass will be held tomorrow at San Ignacio Church and, at 12:30 PM, Huepe's remains will be transferred to Parque del Recuerdo cemetery, where a burial service has been...

SANTIAGO.- The long-awaited concert series "Grandes Pianistas 2009 Radio Beethoven" is scheduled debut on Thursday of this week at the Santiago Teatro Municipal with solo artist Jie Chen's first performance in Chile. The "Grandes Pianistas" series is one of the most long-awaited events of the Chilean music season. The event has been held at the Municipal Theater since 1995 and has attracted a major following thanks to the excellent artists and fascinating programs it brings. SANTIAGO.- The Fifth National Urban Citizen Safety Poll (ENUSC) has indicated that over the last 12 months, at least one resident in 35.3% of homes has been a victim of some type of crime. The figure is practically equal to that reported in 2007. Nevertheless, the results of the survey- which was applied to 25,931 homes between September and December of 2008-, indicated that between 2003 and 2008, the number of homes affected by crime dropped by 7.7 percentage points. When compared to 2007, the poll indicated declines in the crimes of violent and armed robberies (6.5%) and home break-ins (5.2%). On the other had, however, increases were registered in economic crimes (2.8%) and felonies associated with bribery or corruption (0.7%). With regards to the perception of crime, there was a 6.3% drop in the number of people who said that they believed crime rates had increased in...

The band has just launched the video for their song "Tienen grandes camionetas" on the Internet, where it is available for free download. The video is the newest addition to the "Free the music" campaign that was started by Levi's this year after the company teamed up with several Chilean musicians so that they could distribute their most recent creations online. "Tienen grandes camionetas" is a song from the album "Pistola de plástico" 2008, which the group made up by artists Colombina Parra (voice and guitar), Hernán Edwards (guitar), Claudius Rieth (base) and Octavio Bascuñán (drums) released at the end of last year.
