SANTIAGO/ PARIS.- The Chilean tennis players at the Roland Garros tournament enjoyed a beneficial drawing, although two of them could face each other during the third round. Fernando González (ATP No.12) will face a player from the qualifiers, Paul Capdeville (ATP No.76) will go up against Argentine player Diego Junqueira (ATP No.79) and Nicolás Massú (ATP No.122) will play against Austrian player Daniel Koellerer (ATP No.81). Capdeville and Massú could face each other during the third round, although the Santiago native will have to defeat a rival that he just recently lost to in Kitzbühel before going up against Russian national Nikolay Davydenko (ATP No.10) and Austrian player Stefan Koubek. Meanwhile, Massú and Koellerer faced each other in Kitzbühel in 2005, where the Viña del Mar native triumphed by 7-6(5) and 7-5. If he moves on to the next round, he will...

Máximo González closed out the set with a straightforward score of 6-2 in 41 minutes. The second set lasted 47 minutes and was won by Capdeville with a solid score of 6-2. The match was close during the final set. In the sixth game, Capdeville had a break point but lost it and ended up 3-3. 27/04/09 - EMOL (Chile)

SANTIAGO.- The ATP semi-finals in Barcelona did not help Fernando González very much to improve his ranking. The Chilean player climbed only one position in the classification announced today by the ATP. Chile's number one tennis player is now listed as the Nº13 player in the worldwide circuit, based on points. Meanwhile, fellow Chilean players Nicolás Massú and Paul Capdeville maintained their positions in 86th and 87th place, respectively. At the top of the ranking, Rafael Nadal (who took first place at the Conde de Godó tournament for the fifth consecutive time) gained 200 points on his closest competitor in the ATP classification, Swiss player Roger...

The match will be played indoors on a hard court at the Visenamjenska Sportska Dvorana de Porec Stadium, which has a capacity for 4,000 spectators. SANTIAGO.- Nicolás Massú has had a good finish to the season. The tennis player has been steadily climbing in the ATP ranking after displaying high-quality performances at the challenger tournament and is currently moving further away from the top 100 category, and closely approaching the top 50. The Viña del Mar native jumped three slots this week and is currently listed as Nº 78 in the world. Meanwhile, Fernando González and Paul Capdeville have kept their positions intact, coming in at Nº 15 and Nº 104 respectively. In Shanghai, the season's top eight players are currently battling it out in the Master's Tournament. There have been no changes at the top of the ranking and the top 10 players have remained the...

To see international photos, click here SANTIAGO.- Chilean tennis player Fernando González' return to the top ten was short lived. After just one week of being included in the select list of the top ten tennis players in the world, Chile's number one athlete has dropped to Nº 13 in the world ranking following his elimination during the finals of the Madrid Masters Series – forcing him to bid farewell the top ten list. Furthermore, it is quite probable that Gonzaléz will finish the season outside of the top ten, since he will not take part in the Basilea tournament this week and probably will not play at the Paris-Bercy championship, which is scheduled to begin on October 27th. Nicolás Massú however –who was not able to play the Montevideo Challenger final yesterday due to stomach problems- is experiencing a very different turn of events. Massú's winning streak at the...

To see international photos, click here SANTIAGO. - Nicolas Massú (117th) has done his part and advanced to the semifinals of the Challenger tournament in Tunisia. The Viña del Mar native managed to defeat Frenchman Julien Benneteau (63rd) in two uneventful sets with scores of 6-4 and 6-2. On paper, Benneteau made for a difficult rival since he was seen as the number one player at the tournament, proving that Chile’s number-two tennis player still has some fight left in him to move up in the ranking. At the semifinals, Massú will go up against Brazilian player Thomaz Bellucci (126th), who defeated Paul Capdeville (136th) in two sets with scores of 6-3 and 6-4, preventing the possibility of a standoff between two Chilean players. The match, which is scheduled to be this Saturday morning, will be the first time Massú will face Bellucci in the...
